Looking for a place to stay while in Chamonix Mont Blanc, France?
During my few days in the mountainous village of Chamonix, I stayed in the glamorous La Folie Douce Hotel. Bonus, I did not spend the La Folie Douce price.
La Folie is such a stunning hotel. Perfect in winter for apres skiing. Perfect in summer after a hike in the flowering mountains or a cable ride to the summit of Mont Blanc.
The grand exterior is only part of this hotel's overall essence of luxury. Not to mention the interior has towering ceilings and is beautifully decorated. Very Instagram if you take that into consideration when booking hotels. They have a wonderful patio where you can lounge and watch the sunset or tan alongside the relaxing plunge pool. The hotel has bars and restaurants for those not wanting to go on a quick 3-minute walk to the town center, and they are relatively decent.
They also have live entertainment, which was a bit of a shock at first. Every night I was there, they had some event or spectacle occurring. There is nothing quite like leaving your room for a dip in the pool only to see aerialist dancers suspended gracefully from silk strands above you in the grand hall.
Also, I should mention the staff is simply amazing. They were so pleasant and were able to help me plan my path for a solo day hike I wanted to go on.
How to do La Folie cheaper than their already fairly reasonable prices? The answer is Hostelworld.
If you are traveling and want to go cheap, then booking a spot in a standard room is a great choice. I booked for myself and a friend through hostel world for a fraction of the regular hotel price. We were in a 4-man room, and it was perfect. There was plenty of privacy, the beds were pillowy soft, and there were the ideal amount of outlets for us to charge our gear. We were allowed complete access to all the facilities, and the staff treated us no differently than the full-price paying patrons (I've been to a few places where it wasn't like this). I know there is sometimes worry that the atmosphere at places would be lacking, but La Folie was so fun. There were so many younger people mixed with older individuals. It was a party at times!
If you are looking to pay a visit to Chamonix or Mont Blanc, then I fully recommend paying a visit and spending some time at the La Folie.
