I love making floral arrangements. They make perfect gifts and are a great way to brighten up a place. I am going to walk you through my process and share my best tips. If you want to watch the process instead of reading, I've embedded a YouTube short at the bottom of this page!

Get to the store early.

When I want to make floral arrangements, I make sure I am at the grocery store first thing in the morning. My go-to is Trader Joe's since they normally have a great range. Most stores restock early before opening, so if you get there before the rush around 10 AM, then generally, you have the best flowers to pick and choose from.

Stick to a color scheme.

The best way to make an assortment of flowers look good is to stick to a primary color scheme and include accent colors. For my latest arrangement, I wanted pinks and greens; thus, a majority of my flowers were of a pink hue. I tossed in some whites and a deep purple to add some variability but overall stuck with my initial colors.

Choose an assortment of sizes and textures.

Having a range of textures and sizes provides a visually stimulating arrangement. Don't get me wrong, a uniform set of flowers can be nice, but having diversity adds drama to an arrangement and instantly elevates it. Have different heights, soft and hard petals, and large and small buds. Add in different greens and unusual blooms for a pop of interest.

Cut your flowers before putting them in the vase.

Cut the ends of the stems before placing them into fresh water! I use a pairing knife and cut at a 45-degree angle; this tends to give me the most long-lasting blooms. If your plants start to wilt after a few days, recut the stem, they sometimes perk back up after doing a trimming!

Treat each arrangement as its own, and don't strive to be perfect.

Flowers themselves are unique and so will never be truly uniform. So don't try to make each arrangement perfect compared to the others. It's best to view them as separate; it helps remove the pressure of being perfect.

Lastly, have fun!

Making floral arrangements should be fun and not stressful ideal. Overall no matter what you do, flowers are flowers and will look good, so rest easy!

Hope these tips help!
