Sweater weather has finally started to descend upon us and countless basics are getting eager for the season of pumpkin spice everything.
Right now we have Autumn in the valley while the mountains gather the first snow.
I mean how can one not like fall. Mornings threaten your existence as you try desperately to hold on to summer by wearing denim shorts with 7 layers on under that oversized hoodie in a futile attempt to maintain your core body temperature; while in the afternoon you just take everything off as you sweat while running up 5 flights of stairs.
During this nearly Halloween season, there is nothing like canyon drives in the late afternoon when the leaves are just starting to turn colors.
So mustering up every ounce of strength I had, I suggested a drive up to Alpine Loop in American Fork Canyon. Not going to lie, it was totally worth it, the colors were spectacular. What wasn't worth it was the line.
Apparently going on canyon drives is a common thing to do nowadays. We actually had to sit in a line to even enter the canyon. As we inched forward our radio started to cut out. Glancing at the clock I noted that it was a mere 12:04 in the afternoon. Soon enough our cell service was gone and we were stranded. No music, no radio, no leaves, and no progress. After what felt like days our rations of food and water had all but been consumed by ravenous girls, however, we thankfully reached the mouth of the canyon at 12:09. Don't know what would have happened if we were forced to wait another minute. Probably would have had a group vote and then turned to cannibalism.
We decided to dress cute and run around the trees. Somewhere in my mind, I thought it would be a good idea to wear white shorts. Warning I learned it is not a good idea.
While jumping over logs and running around, your girl slipped and fell backward over a log. Fun to say that my fall was broken by a patch of milkweed. For those that don't know what this fun little plant is when broken, it leaks a sap that causes itchy rashes.
Least to say our trip was cut pretty short.
Anyways for all those wondering how to make the most out of this season, I decided to share my favorite things to do!

- Obviously canyon drives.
- They are not only good for the view but also for all those aspiring to get the perfect photos. Some other canyons that are worth the visit include the Cottonwoods and Emigration.
- Pumpkin patches.
- While there might not be a lot of pumpkins left after Halloween I still suggest going because they are fun and you can celebrate with "on-sale" pumpkins
- Make fresh pumpkin seeds to snack on and use up the pumpkin to make pumpkin pie
- Go to an apple orchard and start picking before this cold weather makes all of them drop!
- Go around looking for fall leaves.
- Some of my favorite places are in the old neighborhoods around Sugarhouse and Tanner Park.
- Run around in costumes
- The sugar!!
- I adore Halloween candy and am convinced it tastes better than any other kind. For all those brave enough to try new flavors I highly suggest the Last Course. You can try their unique autumn flavors like charcoal candy corn, caramel apple, and cinnamon ants.
- Finally the best tradition of all !! Rocky Horror Picture SHOW
This iconic cult classic is so much fun. I attended my first last year and adored it. For all those that are new to it, I strongly recommend that you watch the movie first so that when someone starts yelling in your face you are not confused!
So that it's folk!
Now you have a little list of my favorite fall things to do.
Happy HALLOWEEN
